This is a great and rare find for any A&W vintage sign collector. You so often see people describe anything old or vintage as "rare" but this one is - I've only seen two other examples of this sign, and that was after allot of research.
This is a metal sign that was used to advertise at an A&W Restaurant with the subject of littering. "The Burger Family" is embossed on it (the words "Thanks You -" are also embossed). I am not sure of the age of it, but I'm sure it is NOT a reproduction as I can only find a few of these in existence at all. It dates to the early to mid 60's as in 1963 A&W introduced the "Family" line of burgers with the Papa Burger, Mama Burger, Teen Burger, and Baby Burger.
It's in excellent condition with no dents or dings. About the only thing issue wise is a few marks and scuffs on it and a paint chip near the top right corner. I have not tried to clean it in any earnest way as I don't want to possibly do any damage to it. The attached photos show the detail and close up of any marks on the sign, so please look closely. In a few of the full frame photos it looks as though there is a dent in the middle bottom of the sign - THERE IS NOT - that is just a bump of something under the black cloth when I took the photos that I didn't catch until I looked at them. THERE IS NO DENT IN THE BOTTOM OF THE SIGN. I'm not even sure if it was ever hung up in a restaurant as all but one of the nail mounting holes dont show a sign of ever having been used . I can take additional photos if necessary. Just let me know. Made by the Stout Sign Co, St MO.
